Kalasalingam University, formerly known as Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering (AKCE) was started in a humble way, by Kalasalingam and Anandam Ammal Charities in 1984. Kalvivallal Thiru T. Kalasalingam, a veteran freedom fighter, is the founder Chairman of the College and now is the Chancellor of the Kalasalingam University. The Noorul Islam University comprising of Noorul Islam College of Engineering has more than 20 Years of standing in Higher Education field. The University is run by the Noorul Islam Center for Higher Education (NICHE) which has been declared as a Deemed-to-be-University by Ministry of Higher Education, Govt,of India vide Notification No.F.9-51/2004-4.3 at 8th December 2008.

At VIT, semester pattern is followed. An academic year consists of two semesters. The Fall (Odd) Semester begins in June and the Winter (Even) Semester in December. The academic schedule mentioned in the academic calendar will be strictly followed.

B.S. Abdur Rahman University, Vandalur, Chennai-600 048, (formerly B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Engineering College) has been established under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. The University is located in the outskirts of Chennai city on the G.S.T. Road, (Chennai-Trichy National Highway) 7 km from Tambaram and 2 km from Vandalur Railway Station and 17 km from the International Airport. Being adjacent to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park, it is easily accessible by city buses.
